Low Key Thoroughly Good HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE...

Whistle Stop,
the first 24/7 restaurant in Makati,

offered excellent food and PX goods
all day and all night,

and it was where most MetroManila folk
had their first taste of Hainanese Chicken Rice.

But no matter how good their chicken rice was,
they never had chickens sooo plump,
they look like animated characters from Walt Disney:

I learned that in Singapore,
it would be redundant to say "Hainanese" when ordering;

just say "Chicken Rice", and you're good to go!

LOY KEE
definitely is one of the best chicken rice joints to go to:

Award-winning,

from its humble beginnings,

to its continued patronage by the locals,
always a good sign for any restaurant.

The Loy Kee branch we visited
was on Balestier Road,

off the usual tourist track,
with a very old-school Ma Mon Luk ambience,

ancient fans slowly oscillating overhead,
a giant wall clock from the 1960s ticking away,
and dozens of couples and families enjoying
their favorite comfort food,

which made it an even better place
to have an authentic, delicious Chicken Rice meal!
