JELLY BELLY : why I will still return to the Shang Cinebar
I have one thing in common with
the late President Ronald Reagan:
the same favorite candy treat:
JELLY BELLY Jelly Beans!
"The Great Communicator" was so fond of the treats,
and helped promote them so well,
that he was honored with a portrait-mosaic made of...
what else?
Jelly Belly!!!
I never really knew if these were available in MegaManila,
so I'd always request these babies as pasalubongs from the U.S.,
or grab a bag or two on the rare occassions
they would be available in Clark or Subic Duty Free stores.
Right before the Starbucks Incident (see post below),
Random Ram and I were talking about the overpriced theater treats
in America's multiplex-es...
Mega-tubs of popcorn drenched in faux-butter,
Good 'N Plenty candy,
those black Licorice ropes,
the twisted Red Cinammon sticks,
Raisinets,
Milk Duds,
and
the spicy sweet Hot Tamales candy.
We were practically drooling as we walked over the candy counter,
and surprise of surprises,
Lo and Behold,
the gods must have heard our pleas:
HOT TAMALES,
RAISINETS,
and
JELLY BELLIES
greeted our greedy eyes!!!
These imported "Movie Classics" aren't cheap though;
Hot Tamales : P100 for 100g
Jelly Belly : P125 for 100g
to give you an idea,
100grams is roughly the same amount as 5 small packs of Boy Bawang.
Expensive?
Definitely.
Worth It?
ABSOLUTELY!!!
