Finally: A PINOY FILM GETS A HOLLYWOOD REMAKE

After watching one Asian movie after another
remade for the $$$ of the U.S. Market,

INFERNAL AFFAIRS = The Departed

IL MARE = Lake House

RINGU = The Ring

JU-ON = The Grudge

and the granddaddy of 'em all:

Akira Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI = The Magnificent Seven

The Philippines finally gets recognition
via Regal Films' (!) SIGAW.

Originally released in 2004,
the horror film subsequently received limited runs in the U.S.,
under the title, THE ECHO.

(SCREAM was obviously unavailable ",)

Apparently, the Pinoy movie
starring Richard Gutierrez & Angel Locsin,
caught the eye of VERTIGO ENTERTAINMENT,
Masters of the Asian Film Remake.

This company turned Naomi Watts & Sarah Michelle Gellar
into Scream Queens via The Ring & The Grudge, respectively;
and both films were so successful, sequels were pre-ordained.

Will the same hold true for SIGAW/THE ECHO?

Most likely.

Vertigo's last release was "only" the box-office smash
and early OSCAR contender, The Departed.

And the coolest thing about all this?

Vertigo is bringing in the original Pinoy director,
YAM LARANAS,
to helm the U.S. remake.

Once again,
MOTHER LILY makes Philippine Film History!!
