do you miss VICKS FORMULA 44?
I do.
That was the only cough medicine
that could give me that special psychosomatic relief,
aside from its actual medicinal benefits.
The addicting molasses/menthol taste,
the sinuous way the syrup would slowly slink
down my throat, provoking an involuntary "ahhh..."
Sadly,
like my favorite hangover remedy,
Alka Seltzer,
Vicks Formula 44 isn't available
in local drugstores anymore.
However,
this ancient Chinese cough relief potion can be bought anywhere!!!
PEI PA KOA,
it surely looks like, smells sort of like,
and almost tastes like my old standby Vicks,
and it's so thick and rich,
I almost want to pour it on pancakes...

Pei Pa Koa is used by musical theatre actors whenever they feel a little bit sore in the throat.
