Enter The DRAGON
All my favorite fruits are either
pretty expensive,
seasonal,
imported,
or just plain hard-to-find in your friendly neighborhood fruit stall.
I generally ignore the two most common fruits
in the Philippines, mangoes and pineapples.
But offer me this
or this
or better yet,
this...
the DRAGON FRUIT,
the scary mother of a fruit
that's actually a cactus!!!
Like that other weird fruit,
the furry kiwi,
it's got these little edible seeds,
but unlike the almost citrusy taste of the kiwi,
the dragon fruit is more similar in flavor
to a really refreshing juicy pear.
To enjoy,
just remove the "scales" of the dragon,
slice the fruit in quarters,
grab a teaspoon,
and pretend you're Bruce Lee!
