The Next ARSENIO or The Return of ALFREDO??

MAYOR ARSENIO LACSON
was surely the toughest,
and arguably the best,
Mayor of Manila. Ever.
Next year,
with Mayor Lito Atienza reaching the 3-term
constitutional limit for local government office,
(but you can be sure he'll run again in 2010
a la Jojo Binay in Makati)
the reins of power may just be handed over
to either one of these two tough guys:

Ping "Killer" Lacson announced today that he will definitely
be running for Manila Mayor come 2007.
If only for this quote from him,
he has my vote:
“This is hostile territory.
The administration is not the ideal partner.
But all these I've factored in in my decision...
I want to move out of the 'dole-out' culture of governance."
Which only means that if he wins,
GMA can be dead sure that we'll have anti-Malacanang rallies
in our city every week....
most likely,
in Plaza Lacson!!!

Alfredo "Assassin" Lim,
former Police General,
former Presidentiable,
and now Senator,
also had his share of "extreme prejudice" accusations
when he first ran, and won, as Manila Mayor.
Malate's Red-Light District blinked out
during his first term,
and according to his opponents,
dozens of drug dealers had their shabu flames snuffed out.
In the most permanent way possible...

So who will win?
Hopefully, not a BOMB like the ones that fell on my city
at the conclusion of World War II.
It's too early to tell:
ex-convict/ex-Cong. Mark Jimenez,
perennial Vice Mayor Danny Lacuna,
flower-shirted Ali "Son of Lito" Atienza,
Congressmen Rudy Bacani & Joey Hizon,
are all legit candidates.
but strangely enough,
Borgy Marcos Manotoc,
who plans to court the female & gay vote
by campaigning in his Bench Underwear,
may pull off (not pull out!) a surprise.

ONLY IN MANILA.
