KKK : Katakaw-takawan Kagutom-gutoman mga Kapampangan

My cousin Papatet, the Mimosa Golf Pro/Poker Hustler,
treated us to an advanced birthday dinner at the Mall of Asia
before we headed down to the IMAX theater for T.Rex.

Since it was the first time at MoA for his whole family,
we couldn't really decide on which resto to go to,
until we saw the magic words at KKK:

BACON-CUT LIEMPO!!!

Our family friends, the Tayags of Angeles, Pampanga,
process the best bacon in the Philippines:
Mother Earth's thick-cut marbled slabs of pork belly!

Papatet's wife, Mamarox, even appears on the Mother Earth website.
In their household, no breakfast is complete without bacon.
Suffice to say, we're all Mad For Bacon!!!

Therefore,
we just had to try that bacon-cut liempo of KKK...

It was liempo heaven;
marinated with affection,
and grilled to perfection!

Last May 1,
around 30 members of the clan trooped to Bicol,
where we all fell in extreme love with PINANGAT.

think of it as the sadomasochistic Laing,
since this gabi leaf dish is always tied up tightly.

KKK has authentic Pinangat,
served with a decadent topping of fresh coconut cream.
MMM!!!

When you drop by KKK,
I'd also highly recommend the Chicken Inasal
and the
Lengua, which, according to the kids Ram, Sam, & Red,
taste just like what our Lola Sally used to make.

High Praise indeed!

The distinguished turn-of-the-century gentlemen above
must have certainly loved their Pinoy Food;
after all,
they were the ones who fought for Pinoy Independence.

They surely would be happy to know that Louie Gutierrez
(an *ahem* distinguished Cabalen from the Ocampo clan)
and his partners have now taken Pinoy staple dishes,
and transformed them into innovative nouveau cuisine,
but still steeped in tradition.

All the better for the enjoyment of today's foodie generation!
