ISOLATED, But Not ALONE

This December 11,
my Province of Pampanga
celebrated its 436th Anniversary.

The strange thing was,
not a single one among
the Provincial Board members,
the 21 City/Municipal Mayors,
the Basketball Coach/Vice Governor,
attended the official celebrations.

Among Ed was snubbed by all
of Pampanga's Low-Quality Local Officials,
who seem hellbent on driving out the
duly-elected Governor-Priest out of the
Provincial Capitol by the end of 2007,

or barring that,
make his job as impossible as possible.

The Reason?

GREED, pure and simple.

Governor Panlilio shut down
almost every source of kickbacks and
illegal income from misappropriated budgets,
and even blew the whistle on the 500K loot bags
from the Cabalen in Malacanang.

As a result,
all the unapologetic TraPos of Pampanga
are up in arms, distressed by the cutting off
of all their previously free-flowing largesse.

The day after the 500K expose',
every single one of these
pathetic pea-brained politicos
made a pilgrimage to the palace by the Pasig,

where they tried to outdo each other in grovelling
and showing their loyalty & allegiance to the President.

Bugok! Tanaydamo!

My family is doubly distressed by the depths to which
this generation of Capampangan Politicos have sunk to;

it's painful not only for us, but for all our Cabalens,
to know that as a result of the unabated corruption
and rapacious lust for power of the powers-that-be ,
our province is now considered to be the breeding ground
of pond scum jueteng lords and lowlife quarry abusers.

It wasn't always that way.

My grandfather, Rodolfo Paras Hizon,
served his Cabalens well as Mayor of San Fernando
and Vice Governor of Pampanga from 1946 to the 1960s.

By all accounts,
and this we hear to this day from old-timers,
he was a shining example of incorruptibility,
a paragon of what a true public official should be.

He was a member of the Liberal Party,
a contemporary of Manuel Roxas, Jovito Salonga, & Ninoy Aquino.

Things were different back then;
there was a deep sense of decency,
an honorable dedication to service.

In Pampanga during that era,
there was another Liberal Party stalwart
who was an excellent leader,
President Diosdado Macapagal;

here is "Cong Dado" with his partymate,
my grandfather, "Daddy Pong":

Sadly and ironically,

President Macapagal's daughter,
the current occupant of Malacanang,
is now considered by the Filipino People
as the polar opposite of her father,
based on this most recent Pulse Asia survey:

1. In your opinion,
under which administration has there been
the most intense allegations of corruption?

Results nationwide:
Arroyo, 45 percent;
Marcos, 31 percent;
Estrada, 14 percent;
Ramos, 7 percent;
Aquino, 1 percent.

2. In your opinion,
which president is the most corrupt
in Philippine history?

Results nationwide:
Arroyo, 42 percent;
Marcos, 35 percent;
Estrada, 16 percent;
Ramos, 5 percent;
Aquino, 1 percent.

3. In your opinion,
which president is the least corrupt
or not corrupt in the history of the Philippines?

Results nationwide:
Aquino, 66 percent;
Estrada, 11 percent;
Marcos, 9 percent;
Ramos, 6 percent;
Arroyo, 5 percent.

... kaya pala hinahaching si GMA eh!

And no,
don't expect a "Bless You!"
from The Filipino People.

But hopefully,
Among Ed will still give you a blessing.

Our Governor is a Good Man, after all.

Right now,
all eyes are riveted on him,
not just ours in Pampanga,
but all of the Philippines' as well.

We really would all like to see if the
Governor's light can pierce GMA's darkness.

So how does Among Ed feel about his moral crusade
in his province turning into a national campaign?

I really believe he's up to the challenge;
he himself said it best during a recent speech at the Ateneo:

"It has been said so often that Pampanga right now
is a laboratory mouse in a grand experiment
upon which almost every eye
of every disillusioned Filipino is fixed,

steadily observing how the dream
of good and honest governance is realized,
and if it can result in the improvement of the people's plight.

Historically,
our province has always been the breeding ground
of social unrest and revolutionary thought.

Once again,
there is something revolutionary going on in Pampanga.

With fervent prayers,
consultative and exemplary leadership,
participatory and law-abiding citizenship,
collaborative and dedicated service,
together with the application of better organizational systems,
technological processes and innovations,

I believe that we can overcome and transform
the individual and the society.

Then shall our success in Pampanga
be translated in every province of the nation.

Let us all join forces to transform ourselves,
and in turn our beloved Philippines."

hay naku kasuka yung mga mayor... tutang tuta...

cheche lazaro's probe on channel 2 is doing a good job covering the story that is developing in pampanga. atleast informed tayo sa persecution and mala-school bullying tactics na ginagawa kay gov ed. its of special interest to me personally kse my mom's a capampangan from candaba. incidentally, a grandmother of mine was considered one of the best buro makers [if not THE best] doon when she was still alive-- but i digress.

a coupla months ago probe featured the story na yung tungkol sa quarry operations na langit at lupa ang resulta for pampanga's coffers kung ikukumpara si Gov. Panlilio and the trying hard to act former gov Mark Lapid.

what can i say?!!! obvious si yeng guiao!!! puri puri pa siya kunwari ke among tapos kabig bigla na since ok na, parang tipong let the mayors take over or sumthing (kalimot ko na exactly yung spin na gusto niyang gawin). basta i smell a bald rat.

and... hay nako mayor of candaba... number 1 chuchu... "kuya" jerry pelayo... ewan ko ba bat ang dalas mo sa malacanang. mahilig ka ata sa paper bag na pinamimigay ng nakatira dun.

tsk tsk....

i hope that the people see these mayors for the power hungry whores they are. among ed really is in a very tough fight...

let's hope and pray for among ed and pampanga!

cabalen,

dacal a salamat!

thanks for dropping by,
i really appreciate your comments.

and now,
please let me digress...

any chance your lola's buro recipe was handed down?

unfortunately, none of my aunts and uncles inherited the interest in pagbuburo. far as i know, no one's even bothered to note down the recipe before lola died... nawala na sa pamilya ang korona ng pagiging reyna ng buro -- sayang coz my inda says its the filipino version of caviar pa naman daw.

when i was a kid, i used to think buro was so mabaho-- more so when we were told that the fish is intentionally made to go panis. but then buro really grows on you... now, i even think it smells heavenly haha

sa generation namin, tulad ng maraming noypi-- either manila, states, aus o sa kung anung sulok na napunta and nagsettle-- malayo sa taunang binabahang candaba na kinalakhan ng mga tatang at ima. so these days... we just ask for buro to be bought from whoever's nababalitang masarap gumawa pag nagce-crave... sarap with hito or even kahit buro na mismo ulam.... gosh kagutom kahit madaling araw.

let me digress some more...

was just thinking na malayo na talaga ako sa roots ng pamilya...
even may capampangan is very limited. my entire list of known words in capampangan consists of the following:
capamu- wait, ang tuling- how dark, nanung buri mu- wacha want, ali ko bisa- i do not like, ecu balu- i do not know, tuqui ca- come with me, nanung lagyu mu- whats ur name (i think thats what it means), abe - friend, mekeni (but of course, the tocino makers remind me to always come) and the cuss words: pota nay damu! tac nay da mo!

and unlike my mom, aunts, uncles and cousins, i pronounce the "h" when im supposed to and don't add it when it shouldnt be there... one time we were praying the rosary and my couz was the leader for one mystery. he prayed like this:

hower fahter u hart in even oly be your name... when i heard him pray like that i couldnt join the give us this day part coz i was laughing so hard...

going back to cong dadong... i remember my lolo saying that the guy was really a humble fellow. he even graced a party or two in our family and he seems nice in the pictures na nakita ko of him in our old albums... hindi naman siya na hatsing tulad ng anak nya... good stock naman ang capampangan-- it must be the dona eva m. macapagal side that messed things up..the product being the gloria who's turned into a monster. sayang we had such high hopes for her... masipag sana and matalino naman... so sad what's happened to her.

sorry i "talk" too much still wired...

best regards-- am one of your previously silent blog lurkers

manila bay,

sadly, my alma mater is producing a lot of corrupt government officials. too much focus on materialism rather than being a "man for others". nakakahiya, puro high-profile idiots pa naman.

We want to help... is there anything that we can do to help Among Ed?

will people realized that these politicians are out to kill and take the risk of being killed just to see that they get elected to have a government position. The best business in the Philippines is inside the government - corruption is their goal.

The only best thing I can do because I am getting old and I am ashamed to be here in the Philippines I am moving out to Malaysia. I do really feel very bad because I am again going to pay my huge property taxes, and even my time deposits in the bank is being deducted 20% witholding tax - but my questions is what services do this government has given me - nothing. These government officials are a very classic examples of politicians pretending to serve the people but the truth is they just want to put their dirty hands into the vault of the people treasury.

Too bad for that Governor priest - it is even sad to think that someday soon the good Governor would be assasinated, God Bless him...!

unfortunately,
those TOCINO HIZONs are distant relations.

it's all about one of the scions of Lolita Hizon of Pampanga's Best trying to make a quick buck for himself,

and in so doing, is coming up with creative ways of defining "quarrying".
