this is all Mariah Carey's fault.....

There is one particular word,
that I personally feel,
has been overused in recent years:

HERO.

Read the papers, watch the news.
"Hero" has become the go-to word for unimaginative journalists.

As a result, it's lost some of its luster.
Everyone's a "hero"....

Pacman is a hero.
He's a great boxer,
the Pride of the Philippines,to be sure.
And if his chief motorcade organizer, Lito Atienza, has his way,
the next Mayor of Manila.

but does that really make him a hero?

I don't think so.

I believe that heroic deeds require extreme personal sacrifice,
without want or need of rewards,
all for the greater good of their fellow man.

Ninoy Aquino was a hero.
Those passengers on United 93 during 9/11 were heroes.

Let's not take the word too lightly.
Overuse it, and "HERO" begins to lose its meaning.

Want to see a couple more heroes?
These two persons below,
have even gone way past heroic,
they've become ICONS.

I miss them.
