I'm sure Simon Cowell has his own Lear Jet,
or he must've bought one of the old Concordes.

How else to explain his apparent ability
to judge (and juggle)
the #1 TV shows on both sides of the pond
every single week?

Rejected CLOSE-UP Print Advertisment

(too close for comfort, i guess)

MVP! MVP!! MVP!!!

Just another day at the office for KOBE:

49 points on 66% field goal shooting,

19 straight in the 4th Quarter,

and best of all,

10 assists.

MIRACLE on 50th Street

After months of praying and anxious waiting,
my cousin BanANA was fortunate enough
to get this ticket to hear the Holy Mass
celebrated by the Pope at the St. Patrick's Cathedral
in New York this past 19th of April...

...exactly three days later, on April 22,
after years of praying and anxious waiting,

she finally got her approval for
Permanent Resident Status from the
United States Citizenship and Immigration Service.

"Viva Il Papa!!!"

Enjoy the pictures my cousin took below;
no captions needed, just looking at them brought me back
to those inexplicably blissed-out goosebump moments
when I waved at Pope JP2 on Roxas Boulevard.

And according to BanANA,
Pope Benedict XVI has
exactly the same kind of blessed aura that
Pope John Paul II had.

I pray that he visits the Philippines soon,
GOD knows we need him now!!!

The popemobile's license plate number is:

SCV 1

SCV in Italian stands for:
Stato della Citta del Vaticano
(Vatican City State)

And Yes,
the Holy See has a website:

www.vatican.va

Cool!!!

Happy (b)EARTH Day!!!

Take Care of her,
Love her.

She's the only one we've got.

did we just get a confirmation? RICK ASTLEY rolling into Manila!!!

I have to admit, I would've screamed too.
Hahaha!

pistachio has left a new comment on your post
"Bring RICK ASTLEY to Manila!!!":

I was at the Lost 80's concert in Araneta last night
(When in Rome, Real Life and Flock of Seagulls)
and they showed a series of ads for
the next upcoming 80's concerts in Manila --

Thompson Twins, Wang Chung, General Public, etc.

Then suddenly we hear "Never Gonna Give You Up"
and on the video screen we see Rick Astley dancing --
and the whole female audience at Araneta
erupts into shrieks and screams! Yes!!!

It's confirmed!!!
Rick Astley is coming to Manila!!!!

because I'd have the same personality type as
my idols David Letterman and Al Gore,
and two of my favorite Quentin Tarantino characters!

Coolness!!!

Back At ONE!!!

The BOSTON CELTICS are the Beast of the East.
The
LOS ANGELES LAKERS are the Best in the West.

There's an excellent chance that the NBA's
two most successful franchises will once again
battle it out for the NBA Championship,

just like they did twenty years ago,
during the Magic vs. Bird era.

The '80s are back!!!!

from espn.com:

Frustrated after the Lakers failed to win a playoff series
for the third straight season,
all-world shooting guard Kobe Bryant
spent the early summer months starring in the hit drama,
"Trade Me, Don't Trade Me, Trade Me"
because he thought the Lakers were in rebuilding mode.

The Lakers began the season
by winning just nine of their first 17 games.

Then, Center Andrew Bynum, who is all of 20 years old,
emerged as the favorite for Most Improved Player
by averaging 13.1 points and 10.2 rebounds.

As the Lakers began to click,
Bynum dislocated his left knee on Jan. 13
and has yet to return to action.

The Lakers fleeced the Grizzlies in a trade on Feb. 1,
acquiring All-Star Pau Gasol for benchwarmer Kwame Brown.

Gasol instantly filled Bynum's void in the middle
as the Lakers ran off 17 victories in 20 games.

Lamar Odom stepped up
and had consecutive games with 20 rebounds,
enroute to averaging a double-double for the season.

The Lakers ended the season in style,
winning eight of their last nine games,
including four in a row.

KOBE showed why he is the favorite to finally win league MVP
by averaging 28.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

L.A. finished the season with a record of 57-25,
won its first Pacific Division title since 2004
and earned the West's No. 1 seed for the first time since 2000.

North vs. South, SCTEx vs. SLEx!!!

Why does it take a GENERATION to complete the SLEx,

and only a few short years to finish the SCTEx,

LEONA LEWIS' "SPIRIT" : Must Buy CD!!!

"Bleeding Love" hit #1 in the US a couple of weeks ago,

and that's just the first Bloody Good song,
the tip of the iceberg of this magnificent talent's
absolutely fantastic debut album!!!

I was in Quiapo this afternoon
and (accidentally) chanced upon
an (ahem!) pirated copy of the CD,

and since it only cost an irresistible P20.00,
(sorry Leona,
Philippine record companies were sooo slow releasing your album here;
i was looking for an original copy in MusicOne and O many months ago... )

I just had to buy a copy,
and

I've been listening to it non-stop since.

Comparisons between
Leona Lewis and Mariah Carey have begun,
and call it synchronicity,
but not only do they have similar 4-octave vocal ranges,

but even their debut album covers look similar to each other,
the songs-- mostly soulful ballads-- are also quite similar.

Remember Mariah before her (almost career-ending) meltdown,
before her repetitive sound-alike "hip hop" songs,
before her irritating descent into
birdlike "trills" and "birit" mannerisms?

Remember the songs in her first CD from 1990,
the self-titled "Mariah Carey"?

i don't wanna cry, there's got to be a way,
vision of love, someday, vanishing,
all in your mind, love takes time...

gorgeous melodies, unforgettable hooks,
every single song a potential #1;
each imbued with the purity and clarity of voice
of a true diva in the making.

And that's exactly what
Leona Lewis' SPIRIT is.

An instant pop classic.

(And don't worry, Edu!
I will definitely buy an original copy of the CD...
tumatalon yung last song dito sa leche na pirated!!!)

p.s.
if there's any doubt whatsoever
that a certain nasty American Idol judge is a genius,
guess who discovered Leona Lewis by way of the UK version of AI,
X-Factor,
mentored her, and subsequently executive produced her album?

No coincidence that after Mariah Carey week
that's next on American Idol,

Leona Lewis will perform for David Cook and Co.
on the April 24 results show.

Speaking of which,
after the shocking exit of Michael (Hutchence) Johns,

here's my fearless forecast of how
the succeeding results shows will go:

MASSACRE at the Araneta Coliseum!!!

All over MetroManila this Friday,
thousands of Children of the '80s are
resting their sore muscles and hoarse voices
after dancing and singing for two hours straight...

Duran Duran was in town to promote their latest CD,
produced by Timbaland, and featuring the song "Falling Down",
co-written by the band's new best friend, Justin Timberlake.

But to the relief of the Rumors/Kudos/Aunt Mary's Aunt kids
who made up the audience,
Nick Rhodes, Roger Taylor, John Taylor,
and Simon Le Bon

understood the Pinoy Concertgoer's Mentality:

no long instrumental jams and ugly heavy metal songs
like that fiasco that was TOTO,

no odd jazzy new arrangements like the semi-disaster
that was SWING OUT SISTER;

instead,
the boys in the band,
intact except for original guitarist Andy Taylor,

performed almost all of their classics Note Perfect,
"plakang-plaka",
as we used to say back in the day before CDs and MP3s,

and Duran Duran sounded exactly the same
as they did back when they used to look like this:

and sure enough,
even as the crowd "rested" during the performances
of the songs from the newer albums,

most of the time,
as the band tore through
HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF, PLANET EARTH,
WILD BOYS, SAVE A PRAYER, THE REFLEX,
GIRLS ON FILM, COME UNDONE, NOTORIOUS,
ORDINARY WORLD, A VIEW TO A KILL,
and RIO,
the crowd looked like this:

Simon Le Bon still could hit all the high notes,
and his salacious introductions of the DD songs
got all of us roaring and going absolutely nuts:

"Are you huuuuunggggrrrrryyyyyy???"
(hungry like the wolf)

"I want all of you to help us sing this song,
so everyone sing "DA NA NA NAA""
(the reflex)

"Girls, do you want me to take your picture?"
(girls on film)

By the end of the concert,
only three of the classics weren't played:
IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD KNOW,
UNION OF THE SNAKE,

and the favorite DD song of this fool below,
who kept on howling his favorite song's title
as the exhausted, but deliriously happy concertgoers
trooped out of the Araneta Coliseum...

"NEW MOOOOOOOOOOON
ON MONDAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!"

p.s.
BON JOVI, JOURNEY, and RICK ASTLEY,
we want you next!!!!
